C. W. Orr , who lives in Gloucestershire, of which county he is a native, was intended for the Army. His career, however, was interrupted by ill health and he took his discharge in 1916. He studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music, London, under Orlando Morgan, but Elena Gerhardt , whom he heard giving a recital of German lieder, was indirectly responsible for his decision to become a composer of songs.

Donald Edge 
Donald Edge began his career at the age of twelve, when he was appointed pianist at the Palace Cinema in Bridgnorth. Eleven years later he went to Gainsborough as organist and pianist at the Grand Theatre. He has played with Louis Levy 's orchestra, Bobby Howell 's and Harry Fryer 's bands, and has broadcast on several occasions.
