A Programme of Church Music
Arranged and presented by G. H. Heath Gracie
The BBC Midland Singers
Conductor, Edgar Morgan
Gilbert Mills (organ) from the Church of the Messiah,
Birmingham
One of the most significant changes in church music-especially notice- able during the past decade — has been the concentration in many churches upon the problem of securing far more flowing and natural performance in the singing of psalms. The problem, however, for the choirmaster, choir-member, and worshipper is how to set about making a change, and Mr. Heath Gracie will suggest that it is not wholly a matter of the particular psalter used.
Illustrations will be given from books in common use in churches generally, and advice will be given as to how, little by little, a congregation and choir can be trained to utter their psalms without distortion, rhythmically, and fluently. Such questions as those of organ accompaniment, choice of chants, and so on will also be dealt with.
