Clifford Roberts was born at Tipton and began his career as an organist at Bilston. He trained at Birmingham University under Bantock, and he is one of a group of Midland organists who also owe much to the guidance of C. W. Perkins , formerly City Organist of Birmingham. In 1928, Clifford Roberts was appointed Organist and Choirmaster of St. John's, Hove. He won tho first prize for composition at the Birmingham Festival of 1922, and is the author of many pieces for the organ, as well as a cantata and a choral fantasia.
