THE story of Hiawatha is here presented in dramatic form, beginning with the brilliant wedding scene, in which there is much merry-making and dancing. The second scene changes and the Red Indians are in the grip of winter. Famine and fever are abroad, and Minnehaha, the bride of Hiawatha, dies. She is carried on a bier in solemn procession. In the last act spring has returned. A party of settlers arrives in canoes and is received warmly by Hiawatha and his tribe. The scene ending, Hiawatha bids farewell and departs in his canoe to the land of Hereafter.
