Leader, W. H. REED
Conducted by EUGENE ORMANDY Eugene Ormandy was born at Budapest in 1899. He studied the violin at the Royal State Academy of Music and in 1914 took a degree with honours. Soon after the war Mr. Ormandy started on a tour as a violinist, but while in America, owing to lack of necessary funds, he was forced to take a position as violinist in the Capitol Theatre Orchestra. After a week at his new engagement he was appointed concert master and later became first conductor. In 1929 he was appointed chief conductor of the Columbia Broadcasting Company. For five years Mr. Ormandy was conductor of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra and regular guest conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra, of which last year he was appointed co-conductor with Stokowski.
