In his recent talk The Anti-Pioneers Professor Pevsner regretted the emergence in the 1950s and 1960s of what he regarded as a ' completely new style of architecture, a style alarmingly harking back to Art Nouveau and Expressionism.' Richard Sheppard , one of several English architects whom Professor Pevsner singled out for criticism, gives his own interpretation of what has happened to ' the modern movement.'
