14: The British Orchestra Today
It is impossible these days for an orchestra to Bay its own way unless it plays nothing but the most popular music Modern music. which requires more rehearsal, is highly uneconomic and the repertoire has tended to consolidate with music from the past rather than move with the times For the composer, electronic music is one way out of the economic problem: it also enables him to be both creator and interpreter.
