It is twenty years since Henry Wallace wrote a notorious ' open letter ' to President Truman setting out what he saw as the errors of American foreign policy which had caused the Cold War. Nobody paid much attention to this defeated presidential candidate at the time. Brian Thomas. Lecturer in Modern History at North-Western Polytechnic, believes the course of events since 1946 might have been different if they had.
