by Guy Robinson, Lecturer in Philosophy, University of Southampton Four talks introduced by W.T. Williams, Professor of Botany, University of Southampton
Science fiction describes alternative worlds. These worlds are usually plausible, but many of them are impossible - either actually impossible (because the stuff of the universe does not behave that way) or logically impossible (because the concepts used involve essential contradictions). These four talks scrutinise some common examples.
Mr. Robinson looks into the ideas of travelling faster than light, and of travelling in time.
