What Herschel Saw by DAVID DEWHlRST , Ph.D., F.R.A.S., of the Cambridge Observatories William Herschel was an astonishingly productive astronomer. He observed and catalogued over 2,500 nebulae. Now, a hundred and fifty years later, we can check Herschel's interpretations of what he saw. The results are surprising.
