New Ideas about Friction by David Tabor, Sc.D. of the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge
One explanation of friction is that it arises from two surfaces adhering or sticking to each other. But what about rhe friction between the molecules inside a solid-internal friction, or to give it a scientific name, elastic hysteresis. Dr. Tabor speaks about our new knowledge of this internal friction, and about its application to such things as the rubber for car tyres.
