TELLY D'ARANYI'S elder sister, Adila, has adopted her married name for professional as well as private use. A greatnieco of Joachim's, she was one of his favourite pupils, and so successful that, as a girl, she often appeared along with him in public, playing duets. Though keenly interested in the modern tendencies of music, playing many of the newest concertos and smaller pieces-a number of them have been composed for, and dedicated to, her—she has inherited a share of the breadth and bigness of conception with which Joachim played the classics, and is herself a great exponent of Bach and Beethoven. She plays a Strad violin, dated 1715, which belonged to her great-uncle.
TTATHLEEN LONG was only thirteen when she won an open scholarship at the Royal College, coming from Bury St. Edmunds to study in London. She is now a Professor at the College, as well as a concert pianist of distinction. Mozart is the composer whose music she delights in playing most, but she has a fine understanding of many other schools of music, notably of Debussy's and Ravel's. She is a fine. ensemble player, too, and B.B.C. listeners have had many chances of hearing her in Chamber Music. She has had her share of the odd accidents which befall the touring artist, and recalls among them one occasion when a mishap deprived her pianoforte of one of its legs. A beer-barrel had to do duty for it at the concert.

The Christmas Fund was started by Dr. Sheppard many years ago ; through it, many have been able to receive some measure of good cheer at Christmas time, such as they used to have when economic conditions were not so difficult as now. It is administered quite privately by the Rev. P. McCormick , and there are no 'office expenses,' as he has a band of willing helpers to acknowledge donations.
