A Burlesque Tragic Opera in One Act and Five
Scenes by WILLIAM BARNES RHODES
This is one of the early Burlesques, first performed at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, on August 7, 1810.
The scene opens with the arrival at the King's
Palace of General Bombastes on his return from his successful campaign. The Opera shows that his good fortune in War does not follow him into the lists of love.
