The five members of the Commission, holding its third Session - Terpsichore, Mrs. Sarah Siddons, the Reverend Arthur Bedford, Twm o'r Nant and William Genest - are already well known to listeners for their vigorous differences of opinion. Tonight they will have ample cause for further discussion of the play chosen from the repertoire of the early eighteenth century. But the eighteenth century theatre must not be judged only by its plays. It has a claim to honourable remembrance as the home of great acting, exemplified in the glamorous performances of Garrick and Mrs. Siddons. And it must not be forgotten that it was in this century that the provincial playhouses sprang up, providing the theatre with new audiences, and a new popular appeal.
