An appeal on behalf of Glastonbury Tor, Western Slopes, Fund, by The Mayor of Glastonbury (Councillor H.F. Scott Stokes)

£900 is needed in order that the Western Slopes may be bought and handed over to the care of the National Trust. The path known as the Pilgrims' Path, which has been trodden by pilgrims for centuries, passes through the Western Slopes.

In the Community-house refectory the Brothers are eating. But they are not eating happily, for today they have a visitor who is making things difficult. A Friar of another Order is preaching at them, and is doing it with much gesture and pointing of the finger, from the small rostrum in which, by self invitation, he stands. One of the Community, however, is not eating; Juniper sits, his eyes fixed between fear and bewilderment. Francis, attending perhaps more to him than to Piotro, the preacher, eyes him with amused sympathy.
