Since 1923, 'Penallta' has entered forty contests and has gained first prize on twenty-nine occasions, two of the successes being at the Crystal Palace. The Band has also been a winner in all sections of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Brass Band Association contests.

Gwladys Naish has fulfilled the promise she showed during her early days in Cardiff. Such complimentary titles as 'the Welsh Nightingale' have been applied to her. She has an exceptionally flexible voice, excelling in coloratura songs, with a wide range reaching to F in alt.
