A S regards overture to 'Robespierre,' we remember the name of Litolff as that of one of the first comprehensive and cheap editions of classical music. It was started by the son of the Litolff whose overture we are to hear, and who. after leading a roving life for some years, settled in Brunswick, and began music publishing. Litolff the elder was renowned in his day as a Pianist. His rank as a composer is not so high, though his Concert Overtures (of which Robespierre is the best known) have a good deal of excellent melodrama in them.
