THE STRATTON STRING QUARTET
BRAHMS' chamber music has not yet won the same popularity as much of his other music, though musicians count it a very valuable part of his whole output. The first of his three string quartets, however, is not difficult to understand.
The first movement has the two contrasted tunes demanded by tradition; the second is a fine song-like Romance; the third is in form the customary Scherzo and Trio, and the last is built up on a fiery tune which is heard at the outset on all the instruments in unison.
