CHOPIN'S Variations were published in ]833. the year in which appeared the remarkable first set of Studies. The Theme which the Composer takes for treatment is an Air from one of Herold's Operas, Ludovic.
There is first a short Introduction, and then the Air is given out in simple form. The First Variation is largely in evenly-running notes, the Second is a light, delicate Scherzo, the Third is somewhat in the style of a Nocturne, and the Fourth is sportive, continuing into a flying Finale.
