Scene : The entire action takes place in George Smithers's apartments in Maida Vale.
Mind Picture : Imagine a room meagrely furnished with just the bare necessities required for one person. There is an abundance of paper which litters the floor. From the window a good view is obtained of a block of flats opposite, and the distance is so small that it is possible to see distinctly the occupants of the flats moving about. George is seated at the table with paper and pencil, and there is no doubt that he is intent upon solving some difficult problem.
