A Drama in One Act by W.B. Maxwell
Presented by R.E. Jeffrey

It is a winter's evening. In the commonly-furnished living-room of a humble tavern in a poor street in a country town, Mrs. Judd, a respectable-looking woman of about sixty, sits at her table with a work-basket and a pile of stockings which she is mending.
The adjoining tap-room is full of the usual evening visitors. Mr. Billett, an old customer, appears in the doorway, smoking his pipe and carrying his pot of beer.
