Rossini Non piu andrai (Now your days of philandering) (Figaro) ....... Mozart
IN Rossini's opera, Beaumarchais's famous character, Figaro, is a barber, and consequently a carrier of scandal, an intriguer, and a useful go-between for lovers. He considers himself the greatest barber, indeed the greatest man, in Seville, and in this song he has no hesitation in saying what a fine fellow he is.
IN Mozart's opera the page Cherubino, dancmg attendance on the Countess, is rather more attentive to her than his master the Count thinks it desirable, and it is decided that the ]ad must embark on a more manly career. The Count arranges for him to join the army, and in this merry song, Figaro, now the Count's major-domo, chaffs him unmercifully.
