Pastoral Fantasy, The Smithy Alford
Synopsis: An old-world village at sunrise. A short subdued subject, gradually increasing in volume, suggests early dawn as the sun rises over the village Smithy. A distant clock strikes the hour, and the joyous song of the birds is quickly followed by the roar of the bellows from the smithy. The anvil is now ringing merrily; from the distance is heard the sound of a post horn, and the jolly smith bursts into song. After a rollicking chorus and rustic dance, the peasants proceed on their way whistling the blacksmith's song to the accompaniment of trotting horses.
