This chronicle, consisting of ten scenes, traces in verse and prose the ambition, training, and service of Bishop Elphinstone and the consummation of his ability and activity in the founding of the University of Aberdeen. The first scene is laid in 1448 in the apartments of the Bishop of Glasgow, and we are introduced to good Maister Elphinstone. Scene 2 shows him as the pleader of the poor ; in scene 3 he is the parish priest; in scene 4 he is received by James III in connection with an important mission to France ; scene 5 is the Court of Louis XI ; scene 6 is the Bishop's study, Old Aberdeen, about 1493 ; scene 7 outside the chapel of King's College, Aberdeen, on a May morning in 1506 ; scene 8 the King's Council Chamber, Edinburgh; scene 9 the Bishop's study again in Old Aberdeen, 1513 ; and the tenth and last in Edinburgh, where Elphinstone lies on his death-bed attended by colleagues and friends.
