Roddy and Shanta have planned their wedding for November 19. Dr. Dale on holiday at Kings-acre has caught a salmon and sent it home to Exton; Mrs. Dale planned a dinner-party around the salmon but none of the guests could come. so in the end she cut it up and distributed it round the family. Commander Clive has disappeared leaving a trail of unpaid bills behind him. Sally and Mrs. Dale attended the first night of Richard's play.
