When Lee Karsian , radio operator aboard the cruiser Honolulu, went off duty down below to his cabin, he had no idea that a Japanese submarine had already selected his ship as its target. Helplessly trapped in a small dark compartment many feet below sea level in the disabled ship, his only communication with the other survivors was the ship's telephone.
