Mrs. Dale writes:
When we lunched with Maud in Brighton on Wednesday Mother handed over 21d. which she claimed was the legal compensation for the weed damage, as laid down in the History of Parkwood Hill. Maud, of course, was very indignant. Rosamund Owen has been in an awkward mood and we had quite an argument over Bob and Jenny; but I tried to be patient because she has been genuinely worried about Christopher and now William's job is coming to an end. Vivien has had a further crisis with Mike, but I understand he has now contacted Alcoholics Anonymous. I rashly told Mrs. Sandiman about Miss Fry and the Emergency Rota and she immediately decided that I must do more work for the W.V.S. instead.
