Mrs. Dale writes:
Jim diagnosed Charlie Sheans 's illness as lead poisoning, and Rosie suggested he might have got it through sucking Caradoc's toy aeroplane. Naturally, I warned Gwen about it because of the children and Jim was very cross with me and accused me of interfering. Then Gwen told Caradoc, and he and Alec and Mr. Ransome all had a row about it. Mrs. Maggs began talking about legal advice over the dry rot; and just when we thought we'd got Mr. Bonner happily settled Fickling was called on a mysterious errand to see his wife.
