Sue found out George was responsible for sending her tins of food, and returned them all to him, furious. Mrs. Dale, helped by Fickling, had a restful Christmas. Mr. Bonner asked Isobel to resign as Mayoress; she flew into a rage and told him that she would not resign, but would never speak to him again. Dr. Dale told Maggs to unfelt the house, as it was too hot.
