The Secondary Modern School is often regarded as the place where children go if they 'fail' their 11-plus exam. In this programme three heads of secondary modern schools (in Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Surrey), interviewed with some of their pupils, tell what kind of work is done in their schools. Francis Cammaerts discusses with a Director of Education whether what they have said gives a fair picture of secondary modern schools in general.
