Dorothy, the heroine, is transported from her Kansas farm home to the enchanted Land of Oz. In her search for the wonderful wizard she falls in with friends - the scarecrow who longs for brains, the cowardly lion who yearns for courage and the tin man who pines for a heart. She glimpses the joys of the Land of the Munchkins, full of colour and song, is received by Glinda, the beautiful witch of the North, and after many perils gets back to Kansas, by way of Emerald City.
This musical fairy tale, which established Judy Garland as a star in her 'teens, is still capable of delighting children of all ages.
