Sally drove the Dales down to Gimlet Green for the Austen baby's christening. She learned that Richard Fulton had decided to let Raffaele take over ' Stephanie,' and that Cho-Cho San had been shown at Cruft's Dog Show but failed to win a prize. Gwen and Madge Curran made an arrangement to look after each other's children, and Gwen told Richard Fulton she would be going back to work for him. Mrs. Freeman introduced Mr. Bamford to Miss March-banks and was surprised to learn that she had been more impressed by Mr. Belkins, his friend. Grandfather Dale arrived at Virginia Lodge and Mrs. Freeman had to break her promise and tell him that Alec was working as a building labourer.
