In order to help the boy to recover confidence in his parents, and Isabel and himself to mend their relationship, Edward decided ,to take them on a cruise to Madeira. Jenny got a job in a repertory company in a small border town. Mrs. Dale had made up her mind to dismiss Monument but he turned the conversation round to the tenancy of Parkwood Lodge. Later Mrs. Dale went to view the goodsfor sale there. She and Dr. Dale received a ' thank-you ' present from Mr. Capon.
