Lt.-Gen. Sir Brian Horrocks was appointed General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Command in 1946, and of the British Army of the Rhine in 1948. Since his retirement from the Army in 1949 he has been Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod , House of Lords.
Chester Wilmot , an Australian, was invited to join the BBC team of war correspondents for the Second Front in 1944. In 1945-46 he was the BBC's special correspondent at the Nuremberg Trial. His book-' The Struggle for Europe ’— has been greeted as an important contribution to contemporary history.
