Many mothers feel that by listening to our programmes they themselves have learned something about the storyteller's art, and, though they may at times be unequal to the demands made by the * noises ' which our storytellers execute with such skill, they manage very well. But occasionally there comes a tale which could hardly be adequately told by mothers or even by our storytellers alone, for it exploits a special attribute of the radio medium, and uses the real sounds of things. Such a one, with its birdsong and musical box tunes, is Dorothy Stucky's ' The Canary who Wouldn't Sing,' which so pleased our small listeners before, and which they may hear again on Wednesday with storyteller Dorothy Smith who also tells today's equally popular story ' Those Three Little Kittens.' by S. M. Penberthy. Tomorrow's story, by ten-year-old Catherine Mitchell, exploits the pleasure of sound in quite another way. as its title, Chack-a-di-der,' may suggest. But it will not defeat the nimble tongue of Daphne Oxenford who is also Friday's storyteller with ' Birthday Candles,' by Ethel Heaton. Wednesday's tale, a poetic little story by Leila Berg, will be told by Julia Lang.

Mrs. Dale, the doctor's wife, records the daily happenings in the life of her family
Script by Joan Carr-Jones
Last week Mrs. Dale was very busy helping the doctor. One of the patients, Mrs. Lawford, could not be persuaded to have an X-ray. Mrs. Dale went to see her and persuaded her to take the doctor's advice. Arrangements were made for the following day. When Mrs. Dale went to meet Mrs. Lawford after the X-ray to take her to tea she discovered she had not kept the appointment. That night the doctor was called out to Mrs. Lawford, and immediately sent her to hospital: but it was too late to save her life. Miriam had lunch wi,th Mrs. Dale and told her that Alec had taken a job at the Club for three years. Tiggy Fielding had a bonfire party. Mrs. Freeman asked Isabel to cancel it because Mrs. Morgan had accidentally let Captain out and Mrs. Freeman feared for his safety!
