A programme for children under five
Nursery rhymes, stories, and music
' That lady and man,' said a boy of five, don't know so many nursery rhymes, do they? I know a lot more than that.* This little boy has a book full of rhymes, and wants to hear them all on his programme, but, remembering our youngest listeners, for whom the rhymes are the most important part of the programme, we are bound to introduce new ones slowly and to repeat known ones frequently. Nevertheless our repertoire now includes thirty-eight rhymes, and it becomes difficult to repeat them all as often as some under-nves would like. With advancing age the stories begin to take precedence for many children-and how they cling to their favourites, even when demanding new ones How long, too, are their memoriesl So for Easter we are repeating ' Grandpa's Birthday Present ' by Betty Starkey , told today by Julia Lang , and 'Jill's Easter Egg ' by E. E. Ellsworth , told tomorrow and on Wednesday by Daphne Oxenford. But on Thursday and Friday Dorothy Smith has new stories, ' Blackie the Coal Engine ' by Mary Cockett and ' Worms for Tea ' by Joan E. Davies. Elizabeth A. Taylor
