Since 1821, 6,000 orphaned children of British seafarers have been brought up by the Sailors' Children's Society. Today the Society is caring for more than a hundred children in its Homes and helping more than 350 others who live with their widowed mothers. It also has a scheme for holidays for seamen's widows and children and provides a home for lonely aged seafarers.
