In 1924 a new start was given to education in the Crown Colony of the Gold Coast. This brought about an African renaissance in which teachers and students began to develop rather than despise their own culture. It was a movement that has borne fruit in the present day Republic of Ghana.
G. A. STEVENS recalls those early days when he was a teacher of art in Achimota and among his students was the young Kwame Nkrumah.
