Quintet in G minor played by the Griller String Quartet, with Colin Horsley (piano)
Bax's Piano Quintet, composed in 1914-15 and dedicated to the late Edwin Evans, is one of the composer's most impressive works, not only for its length but for the richness of its material. It is cyclic in form, themes from the first movement providing the material for the third movement. The slow middle movement, which also has suggestions of the other two. is lyrical in quality and has many characteristics of Irish folk song
