by Elizabeth Adair and Robert Kemp.
Produced by Moultrie R. Kelsall.
Broadcast simultaneously in the Forces programme and to the United States, in collaboration with the Columbia Broadcasting System of America
On July 27 Mr. John G. Winant, receiving the freedom of the city from Aberdeen, disclosed that he too came from a 'granite city' - Concord, in New Hampshire. The granite industry of the U.S.A., centred in the States of Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire, was partly created by the granite masons and quarrymen of the North East of Scotland, who used regularly to journey across the Atlantic, and many of whom settled in the United States. This is only one of the links with the U.S.A. to be found in Aberdeen... The programme will tell something of the life of Aberdeen in peace and war. There are actually ten Aberdeens in North America.
