Angus Morrison began to play the piano at the age of four, and from the age of nine studied under Harold Samuel. He won an open scholarship to the Royal College of Music where one of his fellow-students was t Constant Lambert, who dedicated his ' Rio
Grande to him. Morrison gave the first performance of this work while it was still in manuscript in a broadcast from Savoy Hill.
