General Campbell has unaccountably disappeared, taking with him the manuscript of his controversial war memoirs. Neither his secretary, Isobel Gilmour, nor his daughter Alison, nor her fiance, Johnny Brookman, can give any hint of his whereabouts. Roger Kenyon, a scientist called in to vet the memoirs, finds himself closely involved in the search.
