They are an oddly assorted lot, these people who wander in and out of the top-floor flat just off Covent Garden-Barty and Mrs. Banner and Fan and the others. But at the centre of events is Maddoc Thomas, who was once a great actor, and is now an almost unemployable drunkard. His lame daughter Cattrin plays Cordelia to this ruined Lear who has come down to working as Father Christmas in a department store. But can he make a comeback?
