Sea and Ships: 2: The Arab Dhows
Alan Villiers discusses his films with Peter Scott.
In the first of these programmes Alan Villiers's film showed the great square rigged sailing ships voyaging across the oceans of the world. In 1938 Villiers spent a year sailing in the curved-sail Arab Dhows out of Aden into the Indian Ocean. The ships are open, the cooking is done on the deck, and there is no cover for crew or passengers.
