Albert Juggins is a timid man, inoffensive, unassertive. He has been assistant manager of the bank for ten years; manager he will never be, for he lacks the necessary push and drive. Pepperel, the Chairman of the Board, bullies him; Kate, secretary at the bank, dotes on him but to no avail; he is hardly aware of her existence.
And then the walking stick comes into his life, left to him in the will of the late Colonel Trevor. It is a historic stick that once belonged to the famous dandy Beau Trevor who found it 'the prop and pleasure of his days'. What it becomes to Juggins this light-hearted comedy will reveal.
