This film is directed by Muir Mathieson, recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra, and introduced by Sir Malcolm Sargent. The music which the film illustrates is composed by Benjamin Britten. He has taken a theme by Henry Purcell and written variations and a fugue on it, in order to show the instruments of the orchestra to their best advantage.
