Entranced by the music of Jerome Kern - to whom this second of four programmes is dedicated - she savoured her first night and one of her favourite songs Dance a Little Closer, but cried when the curtain came down and stayed down. It was the shortest run in musical history - a one-night stand, but she dusted herself off and started all over again.
