On the March 16, 1943, the BBC Wireless Military Band gave its last broadcast on the Light Programme. Some 50 years on, the Royal
Northern College of Music Wind Band, conducted by Clark Rundell , recreate the band's final broadcast, with music including Saint-Saens' Phaeton,
Balakirev's Islamey, and Three Humoreskes by the band's founder, B Walton O'Donnell. Frank Renton looks back at the history of one of the earliest and most popular of musical combinations to broadcast in the golden age of radio. Producer Bob McDowall
