A tribute to Eric Barker
(1912-90).
Star comedian of the 40s, 50s and early 60s, Eric Barker 's career was cut short in 1964 when he suffered a stroke at the age of 52. He wrote all the material for his two radio shows, Just Fancy and the earlier Merry-Go-Round
(co-starring his wife,
Pearl Hackney) in which he played the nervous Englishman, terrified of being seduced.
Narrated, with personal reminiscences, by Bob Monkhouse.
With contributions from
Pearl Hackney, Jon Pertwee and Deryck Guyler. Producer Edward Taylor

World War, American jazz artists like
Charlie Parker , Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie were creating a new 'bebop' sound. In order to hear it, young British jazz musicians worked their passage to New York, playing in the dance bands on the great liners. On the Queen Mary, band members were booked by band leader Geraido. Thus Geraido's Navy was born.
