A profile in four parts of Johnny Mercer with the recorded voice of Johnny Mercer
Written and presented by Benny Green
"It is the best of all trades, to make songs, and the second best to sing them." (Hillaire Belloc, 1870-1953)
Johnny Mercer died on 26 June 1976. In nearly 50 years in show business, Johnny collaborated with most of the great popular composers - Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael, Gene de Paul, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini, Andre Previn and Harry Warren. He was also no mean vocalist.
In the first programme Benny Green discusses who and what Johnny Mercer was.
